I have been experimenting with Conté in these larger drawings since 2020. Conté is a medium composed of graphite and clay. The challenge of working with white Conté on black paper is that the crayon will produce a line of one tone. To develop various shades representing darks and light requires manipulation of how the stroke is laid down next to the other marks on the paper. The mark is extremely difficult to remove once it is on the paper. So erasure is all but impossible.
